The official title of the Lord Jesus is Christ, and the entire New Testament also bears witness and affirms that "Jesus is the Christ". Not only did the angels declare that He was the "Christ" (Luke 2:11), the disciples also testified that He was the Christ (John 1:41; Matt. 16:16; Luke 9:20) and even the Lord confirmed that he was the Christ. (John 4:25, 26)
The Greek word "Christ" is the Hebrew word "Messiah", which means "anointed". In the Bible, there are three positions that must be anointed, namely, the prophet, the priest, and the king. These three are exactly the typologies of the Lord, and He has these three positions. The Messiah (Christ) is what all godly Jews have always longed for, and Jesus was appointed by God to fulfil the prophesied Messiah. He is God's anointed one (Psalm 2:2; 45:7; Dan 9:20) He came to the world to accomplish his will and lead all believers into the kingdom of God. Therefore, those who believe in Christ are called "Christians" (Acts 11:26).
A "Christian" is a person who follows Christ and a person who "lives in Christ." This is exactly how Paul emphasized the united relationship between us and Christ in his epistles. The Lord Jesus himself also used vines and branches to compare our relationship with Him (John 15: 1-10). Because what Christ brings to us is reconciliation with God, a new life hidden in Christ, and Christians have a major mission to preach the gospel of "Jesus is the Christ."
Medidtate
1. "Christ" is "Messiah", which means the anointed. Therefore, Jesus is the three positions of prophet, priest, and King. From these three positions, how can you know get to know this Christ that’s anointed by God?
2. "Christ" is a noble name, and "Christian" is also a glorious title, indicating a person who is willing to follow Christ, a person who belongs to Christ, and a person in Christ. Dear reader, do you deserve this title?
3. When Christ was born for the first time, most people in the world did not want to recognize him or accept him, and instead, nailed him to the cross. What a pity! If the world does not want to accept him as the Saviour, when Christ comes for the second time, he will be their judge.
Prayer
Lord! When we declare
to others that we are "Christians,"
please ask the Holy Spirit to remind us,
whether we are "living in Christ."
